I set an alarm to get up and run in the rain before my husband had to go to work. Sounds great right? This is how the morning really went... My husband told me he would be in charge of the child until 8:15, so I set my alarm for 6:50 to give myself plenty of time. My eyes opened up at 6:45, I decide to close my eyes until the alarm goes off. All of a sudden, I realize that these five minutes feel like a lot longer. I look at the clock and it is 7:22, oops. I check my alarm and sure enough, I set it for 6:50 PM. Awesome. I guess that is what I get for not using my alarm since September. I jump out of bed, throw my gear on, and head out the door.
I don't know what has happened to me. Instead of the usual negative thoughts that run through my head, "people driving by are laughing at me because I am so slow," I am thinking, "I'm fierce; people think I am a badass because I am working it at 7 in the morning, in the rain." Yeah, I'm a dork. However, it kept me motivated... I ran for 7.5 minutes without walking, that is a huge improvement. Here is the rest of the breakdown for my run:
1 min walk warm-up, 7.5 min run, 1.5 min walk, 1 min run (big hill), 1 min walk, 4 min run, 2 min walk, 3 min run, 1 min walk, 3 min run, 1 min walk, 2 min run, 2 min walk. Total was 30 min; 20.5 running, 9.5 walking. I ran 2.4 miles.
I'm getting nervous because my 5k is in 2 weeks, but I am making progress. I am taking tomorrow off to rest and I am excited about that!
